Oh my. That ending just cannot bode well at all, and this episode has already stomped all over my poor heart. Dean. Sam. -JIMMY-. Castiel. And Claire, that poor girl. *flails*
I'm pretty sure it was your post that was talking about how -empty- Dean is becoming - and it's a really interesting thought. Compare Jimmy, who emptied himself, if you will (and that sounds filthier than I thought, yes it does) and Dean, who's being emptied by degrees, to Sam, who is fighting so hard for strength that he's resorting to "filling" himself with demon blood. Which is clearly not to say that all will end in sunshine and roses for Dean - it didn't for Jimmy - but the parallel is interesting.
I think is was C.S. Lewis said that faith is more about the thy than the will when it comes to "Thy will be done." Not that his worldview and Kripke's overlap, but the idea is fun to ponder.
